PIDMIC 4.0: A Joint Statement on Asset Lifecycle Standards at DEXPI Days 2026

The fourth edition of the Process Industry Data Model Integration Congress (PIDMIC 4.0) was held as an integral part of DEXPI Days 2026.

PIDMIC 4.0 continued the established PIDMIC format by bringing together experts from industry, academia, and standardization initiatives to focus on data models, semantics, and interoperability across the asset lifecycle.

Unlike earlier editions, PIDMIC 4.0 was fully embedded into the DEXPI Days program, allowing discussions on information standards to be directly connected with business, technical, and innovation-oriented sessions.

PIDMIC Sessions within DEXPI Days

PIDMIC-related sessions were held on Day 2 and Day 3 of DEXPI Days and addressed key topics such as:

  • information and data models for the process industry,

  • semantic alignment between standards,

  • asset lifecycle information management,

  • and practical integration across engineering, construction, and operations.

The following presentations formed the core of PIDMIC 4.0:

Day 2

  • IOGP-ISSC Information Standard Subcommittee
    Madina Doup (Shell)

  • Advanced Work Packaging by the Construction Industry Institute (CII)
    Dr. Wilhelm Otten (WOtten-Consulting)

  • DEXPI Process Model and DEXPI 2.0
    Gregor Tolksdorf (Evonik Industries AG)

  • Asset Models – CFIHOS / JIP33
    Peter Townson (IOGP)

  • FL3DMS and Tagging
    Hugo Belder (xclerate B.V.)

  • ISO 15926 Part 2 (Data Model), Part 200 (Implementation) and CFIHOS Semantics
    Onno Paap (Fluor B.V.)

Day 3

  • ISO Industrial Data Ontology (IDO)
    Heiner Temmen (DEXPI e.V.)

  • BIM 101 for the Process Industry
Reiner Meyer-Rössl (DEXPI e.V.) & Jugal Makwana (Autodesk)

  • Asset Lifecycle Information Management – Best Practice
    Dr. Wilhelm Otten (WOtten-Consulting)

A Joint Statement on Cross-Standard Asset Lifecycle Integration

The central outcome of PIDMIC 4.0 was the preparation and signing of a joint statement by authors from the participating standardization organizations.

The statement describes a common, coordinated approach for applying existing standards and information models across the complete asset lifecycle — from early engineering and design through construction, commissioning, operations, and long-term asset management.

Rather than introducing a new overarching standard, the document clarifies:

  • the roles and responsibilities of existing standards,

  • their interfaces and points of interaction,

  • and how they can be combined in practice to enable interoperable lifecycle information.

This joint statement represents a significant step towards practical, cross-standard interoperability, providing orientation and guidance for asset owners, EPCs, technology providers, and solution vendors.

Positioning within the DEXPI Ecosystem

With PIDMIC 4.0, DEXPI e.V. reinforced PIDMIC’s role as a neutral integration platform within the DEXPI ecosystem.

By embedding PIDMIC directly into DEXPI Days, the congress format evolved from a stand-alone workshop into a strategic integration forum, enabling alignment between standards, initiatives, and real-world implementation needs.

PIDMIC will continue to serve as a platform where collaboration across organizational and standardization boundaries is actively fostered.
